Alan B. Cantor, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Alan Cantor is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and the Deputy Chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Boston Children’s Hospital.
He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He did his residency in Pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and his fellowship in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Dr. Cantor has a special interest and expertise in platelet development and RUNX1 Familial Platelet Disorder (RUNX1-FPD). His research focuses on further understanding the gene-regulatory mechanisms that control normal blood cell production and how their dysregulation predisposes to leukemia., as well as finding drugs that enhance the activity of the remaining good copy of the RUNX1 gene.
The goal of this research is to reduce the risk of leukemia development and improve other aspects of this disorder. His clinical activities include seeing pediatric patients with blood diseases.
